Broadcast
Professional IP audio encoding, contribution links, studio-to-transmitter, and AES/EBU integration for radio and television broadcast facilities.
Broadcast environments demand sample-accurate, low-latency audio with professional balanced I/O and AES/EBU digital interfaces. Barix products have been deployed in broadcast facilities worldwide for contribution links, studio-to-transmitter, and inter-studio routing.
Deployment Scenarios
Real-world challenges solved with Barix and BNA products in Broadcast.
Radio Studio to Transmitter Link
Challenge
A community radio station needs to send live broadcast audio from the studio to a remote transmitter site over an internet connection without perceptible latency.
Solution
Instreamer at the studio encodes the mixing console output as low-latency PCM over IP. Exstreamer 500 at the transmitter site decodes it and feeds the transmitter. The balanced stereo I/O on both ends ensures professional audio quality throughout the link.
TV Broadcast Contribution from Remote Venue
Challenge
A sports broadcaster needs to send high-quality commentary audio from a remote venue to the broadcast center over an IP link — meeting broadcast quality standards.
Solution
Exstreamer 1000 at the venue accepts commentary from the broadcast console via AES/EBU digital input and encodes it as a multiprotocol IP stream. At the broadcast center, a second Exstreamer 1000 decodes it and delivers AES/EBU digital output to the broadcast console — bit-perfect digital throughout.
Multi-Studio Audio Distribution Hub
Challenge
A broadcast facility with 5 studios needs to route audio between studios and to the central technical area over the facility IP network.
Solution
Exstreamer 500 at each studio provides bidirectional professional IP audio codec with balanced stereo I/O. The facility IP network carries all inter-studio audio as IP streams — eliminating dedicated audio wiring between studios and the technical area.
Music on Hold for Broadcast PBX
Challenge
A broadcast organization needs professional-quality Music on Hold for their telephone system — not a cheap 3.5mm connection, but a proper IP audio source.
Solution
Exstreamer 100/105 with USB flash storage plays broadcast-quality audio as an IP stream fed to the telephony Music on Hold input. Content on the USB flash is easily updated without touching the telephony system.
